“Let me tell you something: no one is going to look at you, broken and shattered and think - damn, you are beautiful.
No one is going to come pick up your broken pieces off the floor and assemble them into a beautiful whole.Hell, you won’t even look at yourself and think – I made broken look beautiful.
You know why?
Because all those writers lied to you.
Yes, all those with their poems of scraped knuckles and blood dripping down chins, pomegranate songs and loves that ripped through you like hurricanes.
Liars.
So you and I, we are going to make a plan.
You are not going to romanticize days when your brain tells you to smash that mirror,
You are not going to romanticize the lover who doesn’t understand you but still writes about you. Here is what you are going to romanticize instead:
You are going to romanticize the first day of spring,
Its gentle hands all over your body,
Lifting you up until you are as light as a feather. You are going to romanticize the tea and honey kind of love,
No hurricanes, but sunshine that builds you up from within,
That helps you make it through the worst days. You are going to romanticize gentle hands of a friend in yours,
Telling you that it is going to be okay.Because it is.
And don’t trust poets, we’re no good, we love pretending that our jagged edges tantamount to a beautiful disaster, but in reality – there isn’t nothing beautiful about shaky hands holding a cigarette and empty eyes staring at the cracks in the walls.
You know what is beautiful, instead?
The days when you can look at yourself in the mirror and smile, scars and all.
Music that makes your soul flow like a river, books that offer comfort, families flocking together like overgrown birds to keep you safe and warm, friends that give you strength when you can find none, lovers who make you laugh through tears.Baby, from now on you are going to romanticize healing;
Honey dripping down your fingertips,
August nights that stick to your skin, the day you find your purpose, long car rides and singing so loud that no one can shut you up now.Bad news: no one is coming to save you.
Good news: you can save yourself.”

Hi thank you so much for giving this a read. Although I didn’t write this one, only shared another writer’s work but I do agree it’s a tremendous piece. 💞

aha now that what I call nailing it on the head, simply beautiful. A conversation I might do with myself in front of a mirror. Reality check is very necessary in life, keeps you focused and alert. (I think Walter White has the same conversation with himself… lol ).
An excellent piece of writing Zee 🙂

Haha you seem like a big fan of Walter White 😜 but yeah that’s a conversation we all need to have once in a while when we can’t find the strength to get back up ourselves. We have to know that at the end of the day, if we try hard enough we can be the ones to save ourselves. Thanks a lot for reading Akhiz ☺️

Very powerful writing. It has been my experience that any sort of relation with others would disappoint you one day…only you can help yourself or at least it should start from you.

This is just how world works, one day one person or another will disappoint you. So as you said “at least it should start from you” , thanks for reading and your comment Alok 🙂

It always pays when we face the truth and stand for ourselves. Only then we can be triumphant; a winner of life… 🙂

Sad not to romanticise love n the idea of love as love should be….
But you are right – it pays to learn to get up dust yourself off n move on….
Great piece!! 😃

It’s not saying not to romanticise love and the idea of love, but the kind of love that heals and is kind. Not the kind that destroys you, or the kind of love we see in movies and poetry that is far from reality and we ending up losing ourselves chasing the same thing.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts with me Aruna. Your visits are appreciated !☺️

That’s very beautiful! However, seeing it in quotes with a name at the end I assume it was written by someone else. No matter, you could have said it. Sometimes it is best to romanticize the mundane stones that can be stacked for a higher view than the fancy gossamer wings that promise flight only to leave us to crash to earth at the most inopportune times.

That so beautifully and poetically summarised the piece Trent. Yes you are right, the quotes and name in the end means the credit for this incredible piece goes to someone else but I felt too moved and touched not to share it! As you said, I could have very well written it myself. Thanks a lot for reading and sharing your thoughts, Trent ☺️

Glad to say I’ve realized this myself a few years back, but this is still a very important message for those who haven’t yet discovered this for themselves. Nobody is going to fix you for you but yourself. You have to be your first lover in a sense before others will love you. Because nobody loves someone who hats him or her self.

Wow, Zee! Yes, it doesn’t help to listen and talk things nice when they aren’t. Stand up and take responsibility for your life, for yourself. Be angry when you are and enjoy all things that feel good to you. Don’t be the slave of people who don’t appreciate you!

That’s so well said Erika. Don’t be slave of the way people make you feel. Sometimes truth is harsh and it isn’t as decorated but it’s a necessity to hear it once in a while. To get a reality check and get your head back in place. Thanks for reading 💕

Definitely! Good-hearted people can be abused so easily at times. They need to hear that for sure in order to stand up and kick the abuser in its bum…. lol!!!
